Compare unit prices in a grocery flyer

The big number at the bottom of the page isn’t always the best price. Here’s how to compare unit prices quickly—no scientific calculator required.

Find the unit before the amount

Per pound, per kg, per container, per pack: without a unit, the price is useless for comparison. Train your eye on the fine print under the price.

When formats differ (e.g. 500 g vs 1 kg), convert mentally to the same denominator—even roughly.

“2 for” and multi-buys

Divide the total by the number of units. If you only take one, check the single-unit price—sometimes the multi-buy isn’t cheaper per unit.

Only stock what you’ll use before the date. An expired “deal” is a loss.

Meat and cheese: watch net weight

A “from” price or variable pack can hide a higher checkout total. Estimate the weight you actually need.

Also compare yield (bone, fat, liquid). The lowest $/kg isn’t always cheapest once cooked.

Use product search

On SimpleICI, search the product instead of flipping 20 pages. You’ll see faster where format and price match your list.

Keep 3–5 “watch” items each week: enough to build the $/unit habit.

Unit first, multi-buy second, real weight for proteins: you’ll skip most fake bargains. SimpleICI helps you compare fast—the judgment stays yours.
